About :: James Teh

I was born in September 1984 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I have loved music as long as I can remember. I began classical piano lessons in 1993 and completed grade 8 in piano in 2005. Keyboardists in progressive music, especially Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Ryo Okumoto (Spock's Beard) and Neal Morse (Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, etc.) inspired me to pursue other keyboard instruments such as synth leads, organs, rhodes and pads, revealing to me the true extent of the role that keys can play in contemporary music. Major compositional and arranging influences include Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) and Michael Pinnella (Symphony X). I also enjoy singing, occasionally play recorder and would like to pursue guitar some day.

Outside of music, computers and technology are a major interest and hobby. I completed a Bachelor of Information Technology at the Queensland University of Technology in 2005. I enjoy spending time with friends, reading when I can be bothered, decent science fiction, red wine, good food, rambling and procrastination.
